A Competition That Celebrates Saudi Creativity
One of the most fulfilling experiences in my design journey was being invited as an instructor and mentor for the Architecture & Design Commission’s “تصميم مقعد” (Design a Chair) competition. Being part of a national design initiative—one that supports young creatives and brings their ideas into real production—was both inspiring and deeply rewarding.
This project allowed me to support emerging designers, teach them the practical steps of transforming concepts into manufacturable products, and witness firsthand how craftsmanship and modern design come together inside a professional furniture factory.

Teaching the Winners: From Concept to Manufacturable Design
The competition brought together talented designers from across the Kingdom, all passionate about reimagining what a modern Saudi chair could be. Their concepts reflected cultural narratives, functional innovation, and beautiful aesthetics.
My role began after the winners were selected. I was invited as an instructor to help guide them through the next stage:
turning their sketches and models into manufacturing-ready designs.
Receiving a certificate of appreciation from the Commission and Effat University for my contribution was a proud moment that reflected the importance of design education and community involvement.

Visiting the حرفي (Hirafy) Factory: Where Design Meets Craft
One of the highlights of the experience was visiting the حرفي manufacturing factory with the winning designers. This trip allowed them to see what truly happens behind the scenes of professional furniture production.
Watching the winners observe their ideas come to life through skilled hands and advanced machines was a powerful moment. For many of them, it was the first time they experienced the full production chain—from raw material to finished furniture piece.
It also reinforced the understanding that design doesn’t end at the sketch—it continues into every screw, joint, cut, and curve.
