This product is a multi-functional, interactive attachment for hospital beds, designed specifically for children with cancer. The goal is to enhance communication, entertainment, and control over basic functions, giving young patients a sense of empowerment and reducing anxiety during hospital stays. It offers accessibility, entertainment, and a way to call for help or interact with caregivers, all while being playful and easy to use.
A Multi-Functional Empowerment And Entertainment Hub for young Patients
Inspired by the colors and textures of distant galaxies, this project combines bold, fluid visuals with a futuristic user interface. The goal was to create an immersive experience that feels both expansive and intimate, blending 3D animations, interactive elements, and a rich color palette. From its glowing particle effects to its seamless navigation, Nebula is a celebration of creativity and innovation, designed to inspire and captivate.
Problem
Children who remain in hospitals for extended periods often experience boredom, anxiety, lack of stimulation, and limited autonomy. Traditional hospital equipment rarely supports emotional needs, creative engagement, or direct communication in a way children can understand and control. When patients feel disconnected, scared, or unable to interact comfortably with caregivers or family, the overall hospital experience becomes mentally exhausting, especially for young long-term patients such as oncology cases.
Current bedside solutions are also not designed for children’s abilities:
Buttons and interfaces may be difficult to reach or use.
Entertainment options may not be age-appropriate or accessible from bed.
Little to no personalization is available.
Emotional comfort tools are limited, leaving children feeling passive rather than empowered.
Solution
BuddyBoard introduces an all-in-one system that places communication, entertainment, and accessibility directly at the child's bedside. Its modular magnetic buttons, game components, camera and microphone, and adjustable structure allow children to:
Call nurses or family members easily, using large, color-coded press buttons.
Play and learn through a maze screen, matching game, building blocks, and counting beads.
Feel in control, customizing the layout using magnetic button boards and modular attachments.
Interact through built-in camera and microphone, supporting remote communication with family.
Adjust the board to their comfort, using height and angle adjustments.
Built with durable HDPE and designed for hygienic, child-safe use, the BuddyBoard becomes a supportive “buddy” that keeps children entertained, connected, and emotionally grounded throughout their stay.
